Newly booted computer on network requires router reset

Whenever I turn on the computer for the first time during the day, or wake it up from sleep, I have to go into my router and "test" it...or reset it (192.168.1.1, and then click "test"). I don't have to do an actual reset or a power-down. The internet works fine for the rest of the day as long as the computer doesn't power down and remains connected to the internet. This happens wireless and wired.

The modem is some junker from Time Warner - a Ubee something-or-other - and the router is a Netgear WNR2000v3. I'm on Windows 7 Home Premium using my onboard networking (yeah, that last thread I made - wasn't the mobo or anything else wrong with the computer).

The router is set to get my IP and DNS from the ISP automatically, and I'm thinking that it's having problems resolving/refreshing my IP/DNS...but I don't know, so that's why I'm asking here. What kind of issues would I run into my running static IP/DNS? Do you think think that would resolve the problem?

    Thanks in advance.

You can try changing your DNS to OpenDNS. Two of their servers are 208.67.222.222 and 208.67.220.220

One way to test whether the internet [link] is actually falling over, or if it is a DNS problem, would be to try doing a PING test to an IP on the web that responds....so bypassing the DNS request process...

    PING 8.8.8.8

That's Google's public DNS servers' IP, which you can use to replace the ones from your ISP if you want...and, yes, they do respond to PING requests....
I've seen the light... It was green, flashy and attached to a Network Interface Card...
Whenever someone says "You can't miss it", I invariably do...

Well I changed my DNS using Taxman's link and that seemed to have solved the problem. Thanks!

Cool!!! Make sure you make an account with OpenDNS and look at the protection options. Your surfing a lot safer now.
