Lost a shared folder on my network..
I have a D-LINK DIR-825 router. It works great. I have two wired computers (one XP and one Windows 7 Pro 64-Bit) and a wireless media player in the living room.
On my second computer (WIN XP) I have one folder shared. It contains video that stream to the living room device.
Tonight someone was watching one of those streamed videos and I ran Windows Update on that XP machine. It had to reboot.
Meanwhile the living room device froze up because that network share was gone. After the computer came back up it said content missing or something.
So, I have the folder shared, but cannot access it anymore. Any suggestions?
I can ping my second computer from the first. I can open Explorer and \\bedroom2 to access that second computer's shared folder, but when I go to map the network drive that computer will not show up at all.
I have file and print sharing on. We're all members of the same workgroup.
EDIT: I am editing this as I want to say if I want I can make the network drive on my PC.. instead of browsing I just type \\bedroom2.. but the problem is not really here. I need it to be seen by the living room device. So, if I can't browse and see BEDROOM2 here, then I can't see it out there either.Last edited by yuppicide; August 21st, 2012 at 11:36 PM.

Make sure that you aren't using the same username on both computers with different passwords. For instance if you have an account called "admin" on the xp machine and you are trying to use the same username "admin" on the win7 machine with a different password the xp machine will see that as a login error.
