DIALUP ISP WANTS TO DISCONNECT EVERY 60 MINUTES
Okay I admit it I'm one of the very few dialup dinasaurs out there!
But I've had this problem with my Netzero account regardless of OS or version of Internet Explorer, firewall or security, so it has nothing to do with them!
Every 60 minutes, despite being actively browsing I get the following message and I have to click to prevent my online experience from ending:
"Warning, Since you have not shown any activity and for the security of your account we are about to disconnect your internet session. If you would like to remain online click here”
However the truth is I am showing activity and I still get this message every 60 minutes".
How can get this to stop ?
I have dialup service and find this extremely disturbing
Windows XP Home
IE 8
Avast 4.8 Free

Are you using their free service or paid?
It has been years since I've had to use Netzero but recall with their free service you had to click an add or use their toolbar to search once in awhile or be booted.
I also recall having a similar issue with some security settings. If you aren't allowing pings through then they get no answer and think you aren't connected.
"However the truth is I am showing activity"
What kind of activity? Are you actively searching and browsing the web, just sitting on a site or what? Does it actually show packets being sent and received?

I am using PAID service, have been for a long time now.
I have had this issue thru many different security settings
I know nothing of pings, sorry
Regardless of any or all activity, browsing, writing emails, etc., anything you can think of, every 60 minutes without fail, an attempt is made to interrupt service
"Does it actually show packets being sent and received?"
I DON'T KNOW OF WHAT YOU SPEAK, WHAT ARE THESE, "PACKETS"??
I just get the message as stated above, I click on the "Resume" and service continues for another hour

The first thing I'd be inclined to do is contact NetZero.

have you tried adjusting the power settings so that your device doesn't go to sleep
go to device manager>properties of your adapter>power management
untick save energy
just an idea
cheers

No I havent tried that but what does that have to do with Netzero wanting to disconnect service after 60 minutes for supposedly "lack of activity"?

If your actively browsing,YOU SHOULD NOT GET THIS MESSAGE!!
Looks like thier system is not checking to see if an acct is actually active or not and just popping the message up anyway!!
I have a friend who used to use Netzero and they started putting SPAM ADS at the bottom of email they send!!!!! (Even on paid accounts)
Good luck my friend!

He doesn't have one, just posting in the thread "because"... Otherwise he would of posted something else... kind of what he does

as to Electrics reply, the reason he posted and asked, was that it was possible for whatever reason your Dial up modem could be going into a power saving sleep mode causing the message to pop up, doing what he suggested would enable an always on, always powered mode,
Its not necessarily a cure for the problem, but would at least rule out that possibility.
Myself. I have no idea, as I never had to deal with Dial Up, I've been into Computers since the 80's but we didn't get Internet until around 2001-2002, with Cable Broadband, so my experience with Dial up is slim to none. I did have a couple Dial up Modem cards, but we never subscribed to any dial up services back then, was just too much a month at the time.Last edited by ShyguyXPC; September 11th, 2012 at 06:11 AM.
