Are there isp's that will block porn?
I know comcast does not offer this. Does anyone know of an isp that will filter out porn for me? I don't want any software to do this. I want this to be done from the isp's end that way it can't be gotten around what so ever. And in that case of course I would need proxy sites blocked as well.

That would be an almost impossible task for any ISP.
What constitutes porn?
How does an ISP know what content any random site offers?
Is a digital download of "Fifty Shades Of Grey" from Amazon's Kindle section going to mean that ISP will have to block all of Amazon and Ebay, etc.?
Those are just a couple of more obvious problems the ISP would have.

An insurmountable task that you ask of a ISP. I would not want my ISP to censor my activities.

Many routers will allow you to block certain urls as well as key words.

As everyone else mentioned having it blocked straight from the ISP isn't really an option. You can setup your own filtering, either via software, your router or through your DNS settings. OpenDNS has a very good filtering system, but even they can't block everything. If you wanted absolutely every tid bit of possible porn blocked you'd have to run a combination of things and even then you still probably wouldn't catch it all.

Go to OpenDNS - Cloud Internet Security and DNS and create an account it's free. Then set in your router the two Opendns IP address's. They are 208.67.222.222 and 208.67.220.220 Now go into your account in Opendns and choose the categories for filtering. St. Bernard has a really good filtering system. Some sites are not blocked and are typically waiting to be voted on for a block. That's the way it works. You can review sites that have been visited and if you see a possible porn site you can add it to the block list and then there is an allow list. My filter settings are so stringent that I had to add YouTube to the allow list.
What is your ISP? You may have a sticky IP address or a dynamic IP address. In the case of a dynamic IP address you should turn on the dynamic IP address option in Opendns's settings and download the Opendns client. This way when your IP address changes it will pass on the new IP address to Opendns.
Good luck. Any questions ask away.
PS. Opendns will block proxy sites too.Last edited by Taxmancometh; September 30th, 2012 at 03:51 PM.

I know there used to be an ISP in the area who advertised the service. I don't know for sure if they gave you software for it or if the blocked it from their end or not. I will just be straight forward. I want to block this stuff from myself. Sure I can always do software or something with my router, but I'm tech savy, no expert but no idiot. I have more than one computer and several spare hard drives. Hard drives can be wiped and redone, routers can be reset, or I could even forget the router and hook the modem straight to my pc. This is why I was wondering about the ISP thing.
Any suggestions considering my goal? Something even I can't get past, at least not so easily. This is why I wanted proxies blocked.
Gosh this is embarrassing. I'm glad this is the internet and I actually don't know any of you.

I think, if I was to do this, I would spend most of my time on the net looking for ways around the ISP blocks.
Even my phone goes through a different ISP and would totally circumvent any blocks I put up for myself, although my mobile service provider DOES offer some type of 18+ content block.
If you do find an ISP level service, be aware that it will not be even near 100% effective. Good luck.
I was just thinking, maybe AOL would offer that type of service? They like to be seen as family friendly.

I'd really second that! If you are at the point that you can't keep yourself from trying to bypass software, hardware ect and your own security controls then just asking for an ISP that already block it is not going to help because there are always ways to get around even the best blocking options.

I agree with, Taxman - OpenDNS is probably your best option! If you did end up having to rely on software I recommend BlueCoat K9 - it's free and gives lots of options. Ask someone you trust to set the password, possibly.
As a side note, I think someone who is willing to take this kind of precaution is smart and your efforts should be applauded.
