Help connecting to my web host via FTP

Hi,

bit of a noob when i comes to networking issues so please bare with me :-)

I have a couple of small web sites/blogs with a particular web host, and one day without any known change I couldn't connect to my host using FTP.

I have a wireless Belkin router, ISP is Orange (UK) and the he web host is not the issue, as out of desperation I have signed up with another host and have the same problem, and I can connect to both hosts from my place of work with the same FTP settings.

Also tried on 2 PC's, so have now narrowed this down to ISP or Router settings. I also unistallled my Norton antivirus and changed that, as i thought it may be firewall issues or similar.

This has gone on for months, is causing me no end of grief, and if I had any hair left, I'd pull it out!

any ideas?

What happens/doesn't happen when you try to use FTP? Can't connect or do you get errors?

It could be that your ISP want's you to have a commercial account...You should look on their web site.

Hi Steve,

I can appear to connect to the FTP, but then can't connect to any folders e.g. the main html folders, it just hangs.

Strangely, I have ust managed to connect to my new host using SFTP rather than FTP.

problem is I cannot connect to my old host to download and transfer any files!
