| Configuring WinMX Music DL'ing Program Fellow Members:
This may be a tough question to answer (many variables):
I download music (MP3s) using a program called WinMX v.3.22. Home Page -> http://www.winmx.com/
I have downloaded hundreds of tunes but this new release is a bit different.
I am attempting to configure it (WinMX). I have a DSL connection through a Linksys Router and I use Sygate Personal Firewall Pro.
The configuration wizard for WinMX requests the Internet connection type (DSL, dial-up, T-1, etcetera). Then one is prompted to manually configure (vs. auto configure) if a router and/or firewall is being used.
Is anyone reading this familiar with WinMX, uses a firewall and a router? If "yes," has anyone reading this configured WinMX correctly? If manual configuration is not performed correctly, the MP3 download is fairly slow (e.g., presently downloading at 14.4bps) ...
Thx ... I know this is kind of a difficult question unless the reader has gone through "it" (config) successfully.
Brangwen
PS: Any suggestions for alternative music download sites? |

I have a Linksys Cable/DSL router networking 2 computers which both use WinMX exclusively. Are you talking about the port forwarding page of the setup? I always skip it and reply nothing I can do about it. Never had a problem. Could it be sygate is slowing you down?
(Edit) I'm using 2.6 , new version different? Maybe go back to v2.6 |

The older version (v.2.6) worked great with Win98se, but didn't seem to work since I recently installed Win2KPro, though I think I'll re-try it. The newer version puts the user through many hoops attempting to configure it.
Thx.

I use a Linksys 4 port Router and firewall. Works great, but you have to use it on secondary mode. |

That's what I was doing as well (with a 4-Port Linksys Router and Sygate firewall), but I'd like to figure out how to configure through the hardware and software firewalls. I'd like to be on "primary" mode ... Secondary I've achieved, but ....
If I figure it out, I'll PM you. Likewise, ok?
Thx.

I am using Win MX 3.22 with a Linksys Etherfast Cable/DSL Router as a Firewall on 384 K SDSL.....I did have to map out the ports on my firewall and todl Win MX to use the same ports to TCP & UDP packets........When I can connect to a user I regularly download at up to 45 kbps....
I don't have any trouble with DL Speeds....Only with finding a user that doesn't have 30 people in que waiting....
If you need I can look up what ports I am using????? |

Is that hooking up as a Primary user? Or are you relegated to the "slower connection" option above the desired option?
If you achieved the Primary download speed, I would truly appreciate you sharing your know how. That would be really great ... Take your time if you want. I must leave now for a family function, but the info will prove real helpful tomorrow!
Thx.

Hmmm... I never got primary to work.
There are no settings you need to change on the linksys that i'm aware of.
Not sure about Sygate, but on Za you'd give it full server/client (download/upload) capabilities. |
