Why only 10 mbps ?

I have 2 computers, both with a 10/100 NIC and a 10/100 linksys 4 port router.

The thing is when I try to transfer files, the max speed I get is only like 10 mbps .

I don't know what's happening

Go the the Advanced tab of the NIC's properties (thru DEVICE MANAGER) and make sure full duplex is enabled.

Make sure the cards are set to 100Mbit/Full Duplex. The Router should be autonegotiate and follow the NIC settings. You can set this in the Network Properties. Just highlight the NIC and set Media Type to 100Mbit Full Duplex. Good Luck!

Make sure ya don't have one of the PC's hooked up to the "uplink" port on the router, most routers only have a 10mbps uplink port as that is all that is really needed for the cable/adsl modem. So yeh, if u've got a PC hooked up to that then could be the problem maybe?

Also check using the latest drivers for your nic's on both PC's.

Also check the cable is in good condition ( & make sure its CAT5 or better)

I have 2 Liniksys NIC, 10/100 v. 4 .

I finally found where it says Media type and changed to 100 T Full duplex ...
