| Linksys Router BEFSR41 Router problem
Dont know why but it wont let me access me router, keep getting a blank IE page. Tried pinging it as well and still cant get a response from the router itself. The ADSL works great though, tried both crossed cables and straight cables but neither worked.
Any suggestions as to why I cant set up my router?
Also Im running XP Home edition, is DHCP automatically enabled or where abouts would I check to see if it is. I tried checking in my network card properties but couldnt find it. I have a page with my ISP where I can register MAC addresses but Im not sure if that will solve the problem or not.
The routers Diag and Act lights are red but the link light is green. Tried holding in the reset button to restore the router to its default settings but nothing happens when I hold it on for 10 or more seconds. |

Did you run the installation CD before you hooked everything up to the Router? Seems kinda weird, but I did it anyways... Mine ran w/o a hitch. |

I didn't bother with their setup software, just plug and play
ok, from command line run 'ipconfig /all' and let us know what your IP address is.
If it isn't 192.168.1.something it sounds like you're not on dhcp.
and yes you use a straight through cable

Only reason I asked about using the CD is I think it'll set it to DHCP and stuff so you don't need to do anything... Its more "user-friendly" with its pictures and stuff... :P
By the time I finished running the CD I wondered why I needed to waste my time w/ it, but I guess for some people it does make changes... Either way, I think its just something that should be tried as an option. |

If I type ipconfig with just my ADSL modem plugged into my computer then I just recieve my ADSL IP Address.
However when I try to do it with my router plugged into the ADSL connection and a cable from the router into my comp Im getting a 169.254 number.
To me it seems obvious that the router isnt connecting to the ADSL modem as the WAN light continues to stay red. Ive tried both crossed and straight cables into both not to no avail.
Firstly I ran my ISP ADSL setup utility and got that running smoothly. After that, I ran the Router setup but it still gave me an error saying it cant connect to the router. |

Ive also noticed and it may not matter but the ADSL modem has to have a crossed cable going from it to the computer in order for it to work. |

169.254 numbers are usually assigned by the PC when it can't find a DHCP server. That's not a good sign. I have the exact same router, and I've never had this problem. Really dumb idea, did you try to reset the router?? Maybe something went a little screwy and needs a reset. |

just an idea
if you got the adsl before the router (that's my impression please tell us otherwise), you would have had to install some pppoe software
problem is the befsr41 has it built-in so you have to install the pppoe (most likely from an ISP) to get the set up working through the linksys
like I say, just a suggestion and no offence intended if you were aware of this
best of luck |

Tried reseting the router but nothing happens. I got the ADSL modem and router at the same time but just got the ADSL hooked up yesterday and have been running it off of my computer till I solve this problem.
Also when I plug in my ADSL cable to the Router the WAN light remains red. Also the LAN link light on my ADSL modem goes off upon plugging into the router WAN port.
The cable coming from Port 1 to my computer lights up successfully though and I get a message on XP saying LAN is connected at 100 MB/S.
I dont know how it really works but you would think that with the connection from port 1 to my computer I could at least ping or access the router.... |

Just tried pinging 192.168.1.1 again and I got a reply but the funny thing is that Im only plugged into my ADSL Modem. So it looks like to me that the router and modem are using the same IP, how can I possibly change this??? |
