Looking for an FTP program. preferably free.
I am looking for an easy, (preferably free, but will pay for the right one) FTP program.
I used ServuFTP for awhile during it's free period before I went behind a firewall with my router.
I am using port forwarding in my router to set it up so it forwards the Info to the computer running the FTP server, but I cannot connect to it. I am forwarding to port 21.
All the programs I use do not seem to work very well behind a Router. can anyone tell me of a good FTP server program to use, and an Easy way to set up a router for my FTP?
My router is a Linksys BEFSR-11. Any help is appreciated.

Serv-U FTP Server is one i have used, http://www.ipswitch.com/Products/WS_FTP/ has client/server apps also. I don't know if wsftp has any free servers, though i think there software is prolly the best in my opinion, since i have used them and have really liked them.

Another vote for BulletProof FTP Server. I used it when it was Gene6 FTP and was a beta tester when BulletProof purchased it awhile back.

look.... it can be done, and I will try my best to tell you how to do it. I'm not sitting in front of the machine I have doing it at home right now, so this is from memory.
When running an ftp server, you need to forward more than one port to the machine running it. port 21 actually makes the connection, but the data is transfered on another port (usually 20). **(This might not be the technically accurate representation of it... but conveys the message)** Anyway, you need to forward port 20 to the machine running the sever as well. (see section 2.3)
besides all of that. you need to configure the server (in servU) to accept these connections. I belive that in the 'advanced' tab (maybe in the settings of the server or the domain.. not sure) has an option to listen to certain ports... this needs to be set to port 20 (so it knows where to listen for the data)...
I hope all of this helped... but anyway. I KNOW that it can be done (and done easily ) in servU. make sure to use the help in servU as well. you might search through the help index and look up the word 'PASV' (no quotes). there is a good possibility that you will tap into more information that you will want to know for proper set-up!
good luck
