ping times and tcp/ip

i am trying to do as Martoch says on another computer on my LAN (Any good connection optimizers for DSL out there?) ok there are 3 computers here going through a router, my avg ping is 30, the second computer's is 34, the third's is 231. what the crap is going on here???? i tried switching cables around (all are 20ft) all winxp machines. my NIc is an intel 10/100, the third is a nvdia 10/100. all drivers are up to date. the third computer only gets a download peak of 335 kbps, while i get 706 (now, thanx to Martoch) what can i do to get the thrid computer working better?

ok to clarify
all are WinXP
all are 20 ft ethernet cables that you've tried switching around
have you tried switching NIC's around in the machines?
I'm guessing all are on DHCP!??
It could be a nic going bad.. if its throwing out a lot of bad broadcast traffic it would definately slow down your connection, and if you have a good router/switch it shouldn't effect the other ports.

well i checked driver settings, and set to auto half duplex 10mbps rather than just auto. i did some other stuff, but most of it ended up not helping/being turned back the way it was initially/making the problem worse. but now we are blazing at 720 kpbs on the 3rd, the top speed of the LAN. ha, from the lowest to the highest in a day.
