| Linux internet connection problem
I am running Linux Mandrak 9.0
I have to use 2 internet accounts with my ISP. I had the first one set up and shared it with other cpu's on my network. Problem then was that I had to run DRAKGW every time I needed to connect to the internet. If I restarted the cpu, I would have to run DRAKGW again. If I tried to use the KPPP DIALER it would look like it was connected, but would not be able to do anything online.
I dealt with it, and ran the connection wizard everytime. Now, the problem is I set up DRAKGW using my second account and I still can not access the internet. I have tried everything from reconfiguring the network to disabling it and trying to simply use the KPPP DIALER. Still no luck.
Any suggestions or obvious mistakes I am making? Any help is GREATLY appreciated! |

Hi guy..... still no luck eh? Had to fire up the MS partition i see
Log in as root and try configuring from the Mandrake Control Center..... maybe you'll have more luck there. |

tried it as root, still no luck. I am just going to call Dave and see about setting up one account. Hopefully, someone will be able to help me out with the problem on this board though so I will know how to take care of it when it happens again, or if I can not get the single account. |

So if you use kppp does it dial & connect ok but you can't connect to any web sites etc?
Can you dialup with kppp & then try to connect to a site with its ip instead of URL?
Do you have a network card in the machine?
Regards

I f I just use kppp, it connects, but I can not do anything.
yes, I have a network card, I configured the modem connection under the mandrake control center and set up for the modem connection.
As I mentioned, I had no problem before I had to add the second internet account. |

SpookyEddy,
He has a network card (ISA 3com509b-tpo) ... and has a hub that it connects to.
If I'm not mistaken
Internet to modem........... and the network card to the hub ......which shares his connection with his playstation2. I think that's how it's set up.
I'm not exactly sure how he has his network set up though.
(We work at the same place ) I'm not sure why he can't get kppp to work right..... might have to bring in his computer to work so I can look at it there if he can't get it fixed. Anyone have any other ideas ??? |

I am not sure if part of the problem is in the way that I have my settings listed for the kppp program. Am not sure exactly what they should be. I have never changed any of these setting so as far as I know, they should still be the same as when I first set them up. It used to work. Then, I installed the network system and that worked fine as well. The problem is with the set up of the second account and the way DRAKGW sets up the connection sharing I think. I am going to look into it now and hopefully figure it out. If not, I will be here again and let you know what I could figure out and what is happening with it. |

I had a similiar problem with kppp(at least the part about connecting to my ISP but not to any web sites) -I fixed it by changing the settings in the dns part of kppp setup from automatic detection to adding the dns ips for my ISP.
Sorry about all the acronyms

Try killing the ethernet link before dialing with kppp (ifconfig eth0 down).

well, not sure exactly how, but after running netconf many times and adjusting different settings, I finally fixed the problem. I know I turned off the etho network setting so that may have had something to do with it. I do not know if my internet sharing works now, but I can take care of that later. Thanks to all for the input and help!! |
