The Linksys Group Inc.'s BEFSR41 EtherFast Cable/DSL Router with 4-Port Switch is vulnerable to a remote DoS attack that requires the attacker to do nothing more than access a specific script on the router's remote management interface. The vulnerability affects all of the routers with firmware versions earlier than 1.42.7.
| This only effects people that have the router's remote management interface enabled.
necessary firmware update is available HERE |

Hmmm i am planning to purchase this particular model possibley as soon as tommorrow. Wht does that mean it needs to be flashed only if RMI is enabled?
Will i need to flash this as well? Or are the ones on shelf since this has become known been fixed ? or what? Im glad I saw this before buying. |

I'm not sure what version will be shipped, when you login into it you will be able to see what version its running.
RMI I believe is the remote management interface. I'd highly suggest leaving this option disabled (it comes disabled by default, at least SOME companies think ahead ) It allows you to manage the router from the WAN side (ie. from the store you could manage your home router) This also allows other people to manage it if they can get the password. |

Okay, sounds good to me, I'll be sure to disable that cuz i really no need for remote management. I have read its a pretty good router overal .
Thanks Vass. |

it adds aol stuff ? ***groans!********* no way. I get tired of aol pushing them icon's all over the place. Well I'll just have to delete them.
I didn't check but does this router play nice with linux other than windows?
My plan is to share broadband between two computers. Primary machine Linux and part-time my laptop. No networks between the two computers. just router to share broadband. |
