Settings keep changing! How come?

Fellow Members:

This is an Email (Outlook Express) problem, but as there's a router involved I'm posting in this forum.

For a reason that I cannot figure out, my Outlook Express settings change by themselves!

I set my POP server -> = incoming.verizon.net
I set my SMTP -> = outgoing.verizon.net

This problem is only on the Primary computer cabled to a Linksys 4-Port Router. Verizon is my DSL ISP, and has been for a year. Verizon notified its customers to change our POP and SMTP settings as shown above instead of:

SMTP: = smtp.verizon.net
POP server: = vzexxxxx

for security issues.

Since doing this, I've discovered 2X in 2 days that I've been receiving email, but others have not been receiving mine. I discovered this when a couple of people I had notified by email not to come from out of town showed up at my door! I thought they were simply being rude by disregarding me. Turns out they never received my email!

The email I send appears in my "Sent" folder, not my "Outbox" folder as one would expect a failed email to end up.

The Second computer cabled through the Router has none of these problems.

Also, after a day or so - and this has been happening for months - the above values all turn to digits, e.g. 12.0.0.16 instead of the original words I had typed in ---> anyone know why?

Thx.

Brangwen

Edit: I'm using Win2KPro with all the Security Patches on my Primary box, Win98se on the Secondary computer.

Also . . .

When I change my Outlook Express Server settings (POP & SMTP), the email works ... Once I reboot, the settings change and do not work, and must be reset to work again!

Any ideas???"

No ... I use eAnthology AV software.

I finally resolved my problem by switching to Netscape. Actually, kind of a nice change. I think I had some damaged computer code, and likely could have fixed it by reloading Outlook.
