firewall setup - need help---
Having a firewall problem here ---
I am running a 2Wire Home Portal 100 router - when I use the router, I cannot access Kazaa. So I opened up port 1214 on the firewall (per Kazaa's instructions) and it let me on. The problem is that I only get about 25% of what I used to be able to download from Kazaa. Let's say I did a search on Dave Matthews, when I use the router I might find 100 songs but only able to download 25 of them - if I bypass the router, I can download all 100
Any ideas on how to "better" configure my router???
I have attached a couple of screen shots, 1 showing all the wonderful red X's and another showing the port settings for my router.
router info can be found HERE
Kazaa info can be found HERE
as always, your help and advice is VERY much appreciated...

Dunno much about hardware routers, but it sounds like it is limiting either bandwidth or setting very low timeouts.
Does it allow you to configure either for specific ports??
Sorry I'm not much help.

Hello - thanks for the bump Sweeper
Mick - I can configure the port or range of ports to use, the timeout is as well configurable and the "map to host port" can be configured (but I really do not know what that last means)
hope the helps...

That's interesting cause WinMX has a setting for connections behind a firewall that can't be changed or you can open ports. For security reasons I chose the "..can't change configuration..." and I, nor any of the kids have a problem with bandwith or anything behind our SMC router. Do you have an option in the router config to set transfer speed limits? Unless you run across someone here who has a similar setup and problem, you may not find help without contacting 2Wire tech support. When I have a problem like this and specific to a certain piece of hardware I will usually contact tech support simultaneously to posting for help here. Sorry I couldn't be more helpful.

Still trying
I was just looking at your setup panel and the Kazaa display and noticed the only thing you can't get is Dave Matthews songs. Could there be a filter in the router somewhere that would keep you from receiving a certain type or length of file? Also, I was wondering if you ran the installation CD when you set up the portal and did you follow the directions found in the movie about disabling software or anti-virus programs that may inhibit a good install?

TOAD - yep, did all of that except call TECH support - will do that in a few minutes - AFAIK, it is not just songs, everything comes up like this and I have checked the setting in Kazaa as well. ODD me thinks...
