if he wants to dialup to home to use the internet, I'm guessing he doesn't have an existing ISP connection to get VPN access.

I have never tried to do VPN. I have DSL and standard web access and email. Never signed up for... or tried to arrange for any other services or functions.

I was curious as to wether or not there was a way to use my laptop and dial into my external modem. Then navigate somehow to my DSL internet access connected to the NIC card.

I have received many good answers and suggestions from this post. I do not want this to waste anyone's time beyond what has been posted here. Unless there is a simple answer...

Thank you for the wisdom

there really is no 'simple' answer. any way you look at it its going to be complicated. unless you go the pcAnywhere route... which is kinda clunky and expensive IMHO. good luck!

ok yes you can dialup into his server and achieve a VPN.
This will give you dialup speeds to your PC, using your PC at home as an ISP sort of. The VPN isn't required, but will add some security to it (encrypting your data traffic). If you go with laplink or pcanywhere.. or for that matter if you have XP you could use remote desktop into your home PC. Your home PC will still get the DSL speeds, the only problem is watching your screen refresh will be a bit slow

no kidding. pcanywhere can be a drag. but i did a remote admin terminal server connection over 28.8k AOL connection on a clients new Dell Demension and it was very sweet. Seems that MS has it more together than Symantec ;-)
