how can I dial into modem and access internet via DSL

I was wondering if there is a way to dial into my modem from a remote location and then access the internet through my DSL connection...

Please don't post warnings about providers not wanting clients to resell services, host ftps, etc....

I just want to be able to dial in from time to time and check my email, surf, etc. through my network. This is more of an interest as to "can it be done" ??????

Sort of like laplink, etc. but done without that program...

I think you'd have to setup you machine as a RAS (Remote Access Server).

And I think that would require NT or 2000 Server.

After re-reading your post I think what you're really after is SSH. Not sure if it's possible to SSH into a Windows box though. And I doubt that the Windows Command Line is what you're really after. Sounds like you might want to try VNC. That could really stink over dialup though.

thanks for the input... It figures that it would be more complex than desired. I guess I could set up one of my old PC's as the RAS or something......

Freesco can do it.

A Freesco Linux based firewall will allow you to do this sort of thing.

I think pcanywhere allows for this as well.

I use pcanywhere and remote admin my self, http://www.radmin.com/default.html
Remote admin is much faster than pcanywhere, which is good for modem's.

Now how far away is this other pc?? If it's in the same house hold you can network them, and share internet through a gateway.

your looking for a VPN. if you have a old machine you could setup IPCop and use it as a VPN. I don't know if IPCop lets you demand dial via VPN. However, RAS does allow you to demand dial via VPN. Its just that RAS comes with win 2k server which costs $899 IPCop sounds like the best bet since its free.
