Hi there i followed ur guide in setting up ftp using Server-U, I am using a netger DG834G router and, iand i have a account with dyndns org, which is being set in my router setting, So my add is: v1ks.dyndns.org, I am using win 2000 prof, and installed the IIS services and have set the FTP within ISS accordingly, but everything i visit my dyndns add ( ftp://v1ks.dyndns.org) i get an error saying "windows cannot access this folder.......
"Details: the server nameor address could not be resolved"
I have got McAfree firewall installed so iam not sure if that can stop port 21.
I have given full rights on the FTP folder. i thinks its the setting on the router, as on DG834G, port forwarding is called Firewall Services where it has Inbound and Outbound service option,
Any one has any solution?
thanks for the help |

are you giving the person the ip address your ISP has given you, not the internet network ip address
also what ftp clients are they using trying to connect? |

Great illustration! I was able to follow it and got my ftp server to work with my Netgear router without any problem. However, since then, I have changed my router to another manufacturer, and I tried to setup the server again but couldn't get it to work. My new router is manufactured by US Robotics, and it has the LAN IP of 192.168.2.1. Can anyone tell me how to overcome this problem? Thanks a lot.
By the way, I tried to change my new router's LAN IP to 192.168.0.1, but doing so would disable my connection to the Internet all togerther. Please help!! |

You suggested that we use dyndns.org (which i have done) and then install an updater client such as DeeEnEs... I have been told that installing a client is useless because the router is the outside connection, not the PC... which would mean that the PC would report its own IP (i.e., 192.168.0.whatever) to the dyndns service rather than the actual outside IP address. This makes complete sense to me... but your tutorial still works for some people, obviously.
The Netgear RT314 router has a client for DynDNS already built-in, so that you can give it your account information, and the router will keep DynDNS up to date with the IP address.
So... i guess what i'm getting at is could you please explain why you would choose DeeEnEs over the built-in router client, or am I comparing apples and oranges here? | These Dynamic DNS/ip pointers work by watching the public IP in your router. I use no-ip.com and the agent on my server and no matter what my IP changes to I still have access to my domain name. |

I am using xp pro sp2, with zyxel 623 me router and, and bitdefender firewall, i have opened all ports on the router, and i controll the ports with bitdefender, and i use serv-u as server and filezilla as client and also dynamic dns service from Dyndns, so i went to check the settings as told but i changed the ftp port i directed to port 23, since port 21 was already used, i got this message : ""[1] Sun 12Nov06 15:44:14 - SERVER IS NOT LISTENING: Port number 21 is already in use!", so i changed the port to 23, and then i put user with full acces and no anonymous acces, and i also specified the passv ports to e 2000-2010, but it recorrected automaticaly to 2000-2004 and i tried with filezilla and also ftp with cmd but still, it didnt want to open so i tried also to do ftp://user assword@yourdomain.com on the browser(mozilla 2.0), i got the message saying " 503 user freeze(my login) cannot login" , and then by curiosity, i tried to do this ftp://admin@yourdomain.com, and it asked me a pass, i tried to put blank, i couldnt then i put the same pass as my user, and then i put the routers password and it showed me a message saying " 500 unknown command 'pasv', so i found out it was strange and ihad know solutions, so thought i could speak to you guys about this, pls help me ,
