How to set up an FTP Server behind a Netgear RT314 Router with a Dynamic IP address

Is there anyone out there that can help with instructions to set up access through a NetCommNB5Plus4W router. I have a static IP number and can ftp between the PC's here at home but cant get access from the outside world to the FTP server. Any help would be gratefully appreciated. The info provided by d1scg0lfer was interesting to read and may be close to what I need.
