Does Windows ME support internet sharing?

I know you can share the internet with Windows ME, but does it have the support built into the OS as WIndows 2000 and XP have?

    I need to know ASAP.

    Thanks!

I'm pretty sure from 98SE up, there is ICS.

Look in the Add/Remove Programs and then Windows Setup. It should be under Internet Tools. If it ain't there, it ain't got it.

Unfortunately, I cannot tell you 600% if it does/doesn't.

    Windows ME has ICS too.

What support are you looking for? XP's ICS actually reduces some of the functionality found in prior ICS versions.

I know Windows 98SE "supports" it, but it doesn't work half the time.

I'd like to see it support ICS just as 2k does, but XP type support would work, too. I have to setup a network of 2 computers to share dial-up internet for a client, and just simply want to know if I have to get some sort of gateway software to support the sharing, or if I can get the job done with ME alone. I would look at the computer, but its not here.

Easy for me to say but I would ditch ME and go with W2K or XP if there was any chance of doing so.

You could easily install WinME's ICS and another program like AnalogX's Proxy. Then the client can easily switch from ICS to the AnalogX's Proxy program within the broswer, without even an OS restart.

I suggested doing the shuffle to 2000 or XP, but the client didn't bite. Its a home environment, anyways, so as long as it works, it won't really matter.

I'll probably end up using the AnalogX proxy or similar...

    Thanks guys

Just out of curiosity DVNT1, I haven't tried XP's ICS and I don't have a XP box to test it, what is missing ?

I've used XP's ICS. It is less user friendly than the earlier versions, mainly as it won't let you set IP's manually.

I didn't use it for long but I wasn't much impressed by it, as I went to cable and used Smoothwall then IPCop. I had used win98SE's ICS for years with no problems.

    Cheers

One example: With Win98se's ICS you could map incoming ports to other LAN computers via some text configuration files. XP's ICS doesn't support that.

    I think 2k doesn't either...
