Qustion for a friend: Multiple DHCP servers on the same IP pool?

"Just curious if anyone can shed a little light on this issue I am running into. I am sure I could find it in a book, but I figured I might find it faster here.

I am setting up multiple server boxes that are DC's and running DNS and DHCP. I have DNS working on both systems as to allow name resolution even when one server is down, but I am having a little difficulty getting two DHCP servers to lease IP's from the same IP pool. The second server wants me to setup a different IP subnet.

any ideas?"

You could cut the pool in half, assign one half to one server, the other half to the other server.

MS's MCSE study guides suggest using two DHCP servers and manually assign the IP pool with 70% of the available IP range on one server & 30% on the other.

You could also set the DHCP service to ping the IP address before giving it out. That should prevent duplicate IP addresses from being given out even if you manually assign the same IP address pool.
