Broadband modem and LAN lock up after certain time

Hi,
I have the following situation
BB modem <--> NIC1 in serverPC
HUB<-->LAN NIC2 in server PC
HUB<-->LAN NIC3 in client1 pc
HUB<-_>LAN NIC4 in client2 pc
All have W2K, server has Zonealarm 3.5 freeversion
Used WinProxy free version on Server

NIC1 dhcp on, no networksharing (ICS). services :TCP/IP
NIC2 dhcp off , IP 192.168.0.1 No ICS. services : Netbui, TCP/IP no Gateway

NIC3 dhcp off, IP 192.168.0.2 No ICS. services : Netbui, TCP/IP Gateway 192.168.0.2, IE5 under Tools connection LAN proxy 192.168.0.1 port 3128 (as set in Winproxy)

It all works a while and then locks. Reset the IP of NIC2 and it goes again for a while. The effect is the same for the server or client pc's. Can anyone tell me what I am doing wrong, or give me a hint? Is Zonealarm configured right with the default settings and IP's 192.168.0.1-4 added to trusted zone?
I would greatly appreciate help as I am getting pretty desparate after a week of trying.
Cheers maurice

does NIC2 actually serve a purpose for anything?
NIC1 = WAN cnxn
NIC2 = Proxy NIC!??!
NIC3 = LAN cnxn

Why do you have it going from NIC3 --> NIC2 just for proxy? It seems like you're going out one nic, coming back into another one ... but you're on the same IP space so I dont' understand the point of it (I do understand the point of having 2 NIC's no problem, its the purpose of having 3 that confuses me)
seems like you could just use NIC3 as the default gateway, and the proxy address.. unless you intend on keeping them seperate for some reason?

NIC2

Hi,
NIC 1 is the Broadband card
NIC 2 is the card to connect to my LAN via a Hub.
Both in the server PC.

NIC3-4 is the card on the client PC.

When it "locks" can the LAN computers still ping each other?

Can proxy host still ping Internet IP addresses and Internet Host names?

Yes pinging is still possible from server to client and visa versa, and from server to BB modem. Just in the windows explorer the other PC's are no longer available (network neighborhood). Also in the IE pages can't be found. The icon left bottom do not show incomming packages anymore(# stays constant).

Got impatient

Hi all,
I got a bit impatient, and decided Euro 58 for a router/switch would have to do in stead of buying and trying other network cards with no guaranty on results. So It works now, well spend I think. So a bit of advice for others after having seen quite a few postings from other similar cases: buy a router/switch it's worth it.
