Help! I'm having this weird situation while browsing online. If I go the a certain web page, always the same one, I loose my internet connection. I am using a Linksys Etherfast Cable modem, which I purchased just a few weeks ago. The only way to get my connection back is to shut down my PC, unplug the power cable to the modem and router, wait 30 seconds, plug in the modems power only, wait till the cable light stays on solid, then reconnect
the power cable to the router, then reboot.
My op system is Windows XP Home edition. Any advice would be appreciated! Thanks!

I think you should try some ping tests when the problem occurs.
1) Can you ping router LAN IP?
2) Can you ping the WAN IP?
3) Can you ping an Internet HOST IP (like 216.109.125.68)?
4) Can you ping some Internet HOST name (like www.yahoo.com)?
5) Do you have any other computers on the LAN? |

I'm not sure if this will work or not but try it... in Windows XP there's a thing called command prompt which you should find if you go to Start-Programs-Accessories. When you click on the feature you'll get a window which allows you to put in dos like commands for troubleshooting. In this window type ipconfig and if this doesn't give at the top of the list of results your ISP then type in ipconfig /release and hit enter. After that type in ipconfig /renew and enter.
This should renew your internet connection. There's a list of commands you can get for ipconfig by typing in ipconfig /?. Try this and see if that works, rather than going through the procedure you have been doing.
Be careful how you use the remaining commands if you choose to experiment. I recommend getting literature on it if you want to go that route.
By the way... nice vid card... I have one on my comp.

| I tried your suggestions Tesseract, and this does not reset the modem at all.
I checked the Internet Explorer 6.0 advance settings on both PC's and they all are identical.
Yes I really like my vid card. It is an Albatron Medusa series. It has been flawless, and it was also only $140!

This is a stretch but, there is a way of killing the about page on your system. This helps with pop up's that utilize the about page on your system. You might've had some web page add a registry entry on you in the same area.
Go To:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\Curr entVersion\Internet Settings\ZoneMap\ProtocolDefaults
Look for the aggravated address on the right. If the address isn't there, pretend I wasn't here either.
Cheers! |

Well since you can ping, even by host name when the problem is occurring then the problem is not likely to be with your Internet connection. It sounds more like a web browser problem.
Try a different web browser as a test (like Opera). |

You might have a "buggy" cached version of the webpage in the temp internet files (TIF). Try emptying your TIF from IE's menu options. |
