Win2k Advanced Server and AT&T Broadband help
I just Installed Win2k Advanced Server on an old box to use as a server. Mainly web and ftp. Once the OS was installed and my NICs were installed i plugged in my Cat5 for the internet into the Win2k Box. Should just work right?
Heres whats happening:
It takes Win2k literally 7 minutes to boot. When i finally get to the desktop i have no Internet connection. Both NICS apear to be installed correctly in device manager. When i go in ipconfig i have a 169. IP Address. Why isn't it picking up the broadband? I have everything set to autodetect at the moment. (the its supposed to be for ATT) Please help.

Is the NIC's MAC address registered with your ISP?

yes, both of them.
I used all the same hardware but with WinXP before.
I decided to go with Win2k because i thought it would
run better on this 500MHz system.

Do the NICs have link lights on? Does the hub/switch have respective link lights on?
If so, I would test by manually assigning an IP address and test pinging it from another LAN computer.
I should ask, do you have a router or any other computers on the same network segment? Or is this a stand alone computer except for the Internet connection?

what are your TCP/IP settings? and like DVNT1 said, any routers on the network or are you planning on turning this into a NAT router using RRAS? do you have two NICs installed? or just one?
BTW, Win2k Server or ADV will take a while to boot. that is if you have it as an active directory server.
and i thought i'd mention that win2k adv will run fine on a 500mhz system, i'm running it on a P3 450 and it runs great!
just a thought... but AT&TBI doesn't allow web, ftp, or nntp servers on their network. infact no servers of any kind. believe me, i used to have their service
just thought i'd mention that
