Belkin router works with Belkin Wireless card, not Linksys wired card

Hey folks, I'm using a Belkin Gateway Router (F5D6230-3) with a cable modem and 2 types of PCMCIA cards: Belkin wireless and Linksys Ethernet wired card. I can get the router to recognize and maintain a connection with the wireless card, but the router doesn't want to consistently recognize the wired card. I'm pretty certain I have all the settings correct, but don't know what else I could have missed. Belkin's support team hasn't returned my email from a week ago and I'm just about ready to return the whole set of goods. Any suggestions on how I can get everything up and running without issue? Oh, the systems I'm trying to connect are 2 PCs, one running Win98SE and the other WinME. Thanks for your help.

Start by giving more information. "It doesn't work, why?" questions are pretty much meaningless and will only get you broad guesses.
"but the router doesn't want to consistently recognize the wired card"
What does that mean?
"I'm pretty certain I have all the settings correct, but don't know what else I could have missed. "
Yeah, use either since we have no idea what your settings are.
Try providing all conceivable details of your setup, what you've experienced, and what you've tried troubleshooting.

in response to kwebb

good points, all of them.
To clarify (I hope):

When I insert the Belkin wireless PCMCIA card into my computer, I can access the internet (the router is transferring the signal from my cable modem and I have an IP address when I run 'winipcfg'). After which, and only after, an IP address is identified by the computer can the user gain access to router-specific software. However, after stepping through the Router software from Belkin called 'Initial Setup', leaving all of the settings alone and exiting the program, then the wireless card did not work (no IP address was obtained). I turned off my computer, re-inserted the card, and once again I had an IP address and access to the internet.
For the 'wired' PCMCIA card, I plugged-in all the equipment according to the Router's directions (cable modem --> router --> computer), but no signal was detected by my computer (i.e., no IP address could be found). Then, all of the sudden, I could get an IP address and access to the internet. So, I started the 'Initial setup' program for this computer, left most of the settings alone (according to the manual's recommendations and according to the information I have from my ISP), but once I exited the setup, my computer was no longer 'connected' (according to the router software and no IP address obtained). The wired card has not worked since that time and only worked once before that time (out of ~10 insertions of the PCMCIA card and multiple re-boots). I'd give all the pertinent specifics if I knew what they were- except the manual has been less than helpful on identifying what should be done if a computer can't receive or recognize that it's connected to the router. I don't generally regard myself as computer inept, but this setup process has left me wondering. I thought this was supposed to be a relatively easy operation.
