    Slow wireless network

    Lo all,

Ive got a network set up at home using a netgear MR314 router connected to the internet. from that a desktop connects using a usb 801.11b interface and a laptop which uses a pcmcia card to wirelessly connect to the net.

everything works fine, but when i transfer files from one computer to the other, through the router i only get about 200 k/sec transfer speeds. I transferred a 600mb file from one computer to the other and it took 40 mins

surely a wireless network should be faster than this. is this a problem with the router, or the computers connecting to the router ?

to many factors to really say. could be interference? could be the distance? Maybe look around for a firmware update?

You will never truely reach 11 mpbs on a router. What network card are you using? that could be a factor also

I have a wireless network that runs at 11 mbps. It all matters on your signal strength and how many walls are in the way. Usually if your signal strength is around say 28% your not gonna get the 11 mbps instead its gonna run 5.5 mbps and that let me tell you is REALLY SLOW . Check your signal strength that might be the problem.

    Wireless is still TOO slow...IMO.

802.11a is up to 72m...that's not too bad. I like to store all my media on a peer or two, so anything much less than 100Mbps would not work for my needs, so I have wires everywhere!
