Protection!

I am Sharing two PC's via a router and the internet and network is fine while my firewalls are unenabled but how do i protect myself.
I have a firewall on the router and on each machine under pc chillin.

please advise me of the correct setup

What exactly do you mean as far as protection from what or whom? You say your firewalls are not enabled do you mean the built in xp firewall or do you have another program like Norton?

Personally I would back up anything that is very important to you on disk and your router should be sufficient enough to protect you from the average user

rockpile, the problem with routers is they don't protect you from outgoing connections from your machine. If somehow some sort of spyware gets onto your machine, or a trojan w/o a software firewall on the machine anything will be able to access the internet with no trouble at all... the router won't care as the traffic is started internally.

Paul, you'll want to allow NetBios traffic (port 139 TCP Both directions I believe) for file sharing. I'm not sure how to do this in PCcilling as I use sygate but it maybe at least a direction to start

Thanks for the replies, although it looks like i have to start from scratch as i have lost my connections again, internets fine but i have the Network not accessible messages again.
I have no Wan light on the Router either.

Back to the Firewall, will having the firewall on the router disconnected cause me any problems? eg: will my files be accesible to the world?.

How does one find the firewall on XP?
