wireless cable?

okay this might be silly or maybe stupid or who knows even a good question but anyways here it goes.

I have a Cable modem with Adelphia now what I like to instead of me running that long bummy cable all over the house and I want to wireless what would I need?

currently my desk is set right up near the port where the cable comes through I wanna move upstairs or maybe a couple hundred away.

DO I need to get a wireless network card for desktop? which goes in the pci slot? and get another wireless cable modem where the cable service comes from?

Im not using an ethernet port on my comp Im using USB

Thumbs up

You'd need a wireless access point, or if you don't have a router already, you can get a wireless cable/dsl router. Then you'd need either a wireless card and PCMCIA adapter for your desktop, or a wireless PCI card, or a USB wireless adapter. Best Buy has the router and wireless USB adapter on sale today. I saw that you've already posted about their ads. I use the Linksys wireless cable/dsl router and the Linksys wireless USB adapter. It works great and it's pretty simple to set up. If your PC sits on the floor under a desk, you may find the USB adapter works better since it comes with a long cable and you can mount it higher, away from other cables.

the usb modem will screw you on getting a SOHO NAT router. I believe there may be one or two out there but the bulk of the budget routers are ethernet only (RJ-45 connector) You might be better suited to running ICS on your windows host box. You'll still need a wired NIC to push the connection out and that would connect to an AP with a crossover cable. Then your wireless clients will associate to that. YOu mentioned a "couple a hundred away". If your talking feet then I hope you have line of sight or you have little chance of getting a reliable association to a client if at all.
