network? Well, here is the setup: the basement and first floor are ready for computer usage, but i have a wired connection. One d-link router and two compters sharing the connection, i want to find a way to avoid all the cables and stuff around the first floor. Is wireless something better to have when you have computers in different rooms? Or is it better to have it as it is, cables running all around the house???
Thanks, let me know. |

Go wireless because if you dont like where you place your computer you can move it anywhere and not go through that costly rewiring junk hehhehe |

wireless is great but sometimes it drops packets when you play heavy duty LAN games...for everything else it rocks.
If the cabling is really ugly and bothering you that much than go wireless otherwise put the wires behind the walls and get some wall plates and patch cables and make it a weekend project to get the cabling as clean you can :> |

thank you, thank you...well, i don't feel like dealing with those cables anymore. I may end up going wireless, but i only have one worry, what is the transfer rate on music and stuff as such. I mean, with cables, it is fast, but with wireless(from what i have read), it seems to be lower. I am more into forums, little kazaa downloading, but big on hotmail messanger. What do you really recommend, and also the taping the cables around just makes it a big headache, unless i start making holes around and make it all neat... What do you suggest??
Thanks. |

Well if you're transferring files between computers within your LAN, wireless is definitely going to be slower than a wired setup. But for doing things on the internet it makes little different. I can still get my full ADSL download speed with one of my computers that's connected with a wireless NIC. Cause even though your wired NIC can go up to 100Mpbs, most home broadband setups can only go as fast as 10MBps. |

You will still be able to host if you want. Acts just like wired as far as TCP/IP is concerned.
