smc 7004br router problems
i'm attempting to share my dsl with all the computers in the house, and came across a smoking deal on a used smc 7004br router. i power it up and get a good heartbeat (m1 led flashing) but as soon as i plug a computer to the LAN side of the router, m1 goes solid for 5 seconds, flashes twice, then goes out. i have been able to connect to the router using hyperterminal and a null modem cable, and have restored the default ip of 192.168.123.254 as well as the default pw. i have even tried shorting pins 3 and 8 on bootup, in which i get the expected 8 fast flashes followed by a normal heartbeat. after all of this, i still can't ping the router. tired of waiting for a response from smc tech support... any suggestions?
thanks

Sounds to me like you may need a crossover cable. Ran into this problem when I hooked an SMC 7004vbr to my DSL modem. Hope this helps.
