how to design home networking ?
Please advise how to set home networking - we have 4 computers at home:
Today I have an ADSL Samsung modem which is connected to a network card to my PC.
There is another network card on that computer which connect to a 10mbs hub which connects to the other computers. My Q:
1- I heard I can turn the ADSL modem into a router. How ?
2- where is the router in current config ? inside the main PC ?
3- If the modem can be used as a router, wouldn't it be better to buy a switch and place it after the modem and eliminate the hub ? and if so, which switch to buy ?
Thanks

the modem as a router also? i have heard rumors of a modem that was one. but just a alittle here and there. what model is the modem? for the most part you will need something like this

or if you have a spare computer laying around with an extra network card you can set up ICS

You can make the SYSTEM the modem is plugged into basically a router with either Smoothwall or IPCop
