| Network card decides to stop working!!!
Hi all,
I have a slight problem with a network card i have, Its an isa pnp16bit nic, it is ne2000 compatible, now a few weeks ago, i had it working perfectly on my 3rd computer with win 98 se, but i swapped hdd's and sound card, consequently I formatted and reinstalled windowsME. (I know i shouldnt have but i wanted to try, and whats another reinstall??). But now it wasnt detected and my soundcard didnt work either!!!!. So after much fiddling, i reverted back to win 98se, now the soundcard worked and the nic was detected but no dice it wouldnt showup on the network at all, and wouldnt talk to the other computers. Im now playing around with mandrake linux 8.0 and i really want the network to work, but it cant detect it. Ive changed the bios options to non-pnp OS and pnp OS, auto and manual, but again no dice, could it have just broken or what?? (i also removed the soundcard- no help). Any suggestions as to whats wrong?
Should i just get a pci card???
HELP HELP
Thanks (excuse the long post)
oh yeah its on a jetway tx5c mb, with a 300 cyrix
latest bios (if youd call 98 latest???) |

What brand NIC is it ??????????
Some "ne2000 compatable" NICs don't work with the driver included in windows. You need the specific driver for your card from the mfg.
The SN2000 NIC is like this. You'll NEVER get it work with the generic drivers but will have no indication of a problem other than the NIC being blind as a bat.

Good luck. Might be time for a new NIC. The intel Pro 100 works flawlessly with Linux. |

It's definately PnP?....not software configured legacy...
If it is a legacy problem you could try disableing COM2 and IDE secondary (irq 3 and 15) temporarily just to see if it starts working or use the Pnp configuration options in your bios. Set each IRQ to legacy one at a time, testing the card with each change. |

tried to do that,
have cycled through all available irq's,
again no dice. When i run setup(lan dos program) it detects the card fine, but linux win98 winME havent liked it in the slightest |
