I have a DLink pci lan card in my Winxp Pro computer. But it shows up at "Dlink DFE-530+ #2" in device manager. There's only one lan card in my computer. Is there any way to find and get rid of #1? |

Did you have the card in and change PCI slots? it usually does that. You'll probably have to put it back into it's original slot, uninstall it, then put it back in the other ..and hope it goes away.

You shouldn't even have to remove and reinstall it in the other location. Just delete the offending NIC in Device Managler and the delete it in your Network Properties for your connection. That should be all you need to do.

Well, there's only 1 NIC showing up in device manager. And it's the "#2" card. When I go into Network Connections, there's a "Local Area Network 5". WTF.
(BTW, this Windows was previously running 2k on a K7S5A. When the mobo died, I got a MSI. But 2k didn't like it, and still wouldn't work when I tried repairing. So I upgraded to XP.) |

Nobody has a solution??
I really need to fix this. Stupid cable internet software wont allow me to activate my account since its software isn't picking up my lan card. And I'm not about to pay them an arm and leg for some technician to come fix it. |

There is a reg trick u can use. I know I've done it before to get rid of ethernet adapters. Some thing about going in to the reg and changing a number or something.
Know this doesn't help u much . But I found the info by doing a search on networking. Perhaps if u do a search on how to get rid of phatom ethernet adapters u might find the info too.

Well, you could delete the NIC in device manager and then delete all the networking components in your network connection. If you wanted to get really serious you just then shut the machine down and then remove the NIC. Once you reboot you should be able to remove the offending network connection and then shutdown. Once that's happened just reinstall the network card and the networking components. That's probably the long way around to do it but it should work just fine.

Just highlight and rename the LAN Connection to whatever you want (i.e. Right click 'Local Area Connection 5' and use the rename option to remove the 5) |
