Should i connect that and see if it pings
| Yea, give it a try. After you have the wireless card in and the network wire removed open a command prompt... (for XP) type ipconfig /release wait a momment fo the IP addresses to be released...then type ipconfig /renew. This should get an IP address for the wireless NIC.
Then try your ping test to the router's LAN IP address. |

hey dvnt, just tried with the wireless, and they don't ping each other, they ping the router though. any ideas? one of the ip addresses is 192.168.1.3, and the other is 192.168.1.100, does that matter?
Thanks

Do you mean the desktop can ping the router and the wireless client can ping the router? Just not desktop to wireless or wireless to desktop? |

i did that and nothing changed. The funny thing about all this is, that the thing in the task manager makes it look like the computer is connected through a wireless connection, but when i click on the internet, it says page cannot be displayed. I'm downloading the newest drivers from that site to see if that will help maybe

If the ping fails then the Internet should fail.
I believe the task manager thing indicates your wireless signal strength. This does not indicate the IP routing, DNS, etc... are correct.
After that settni gchange in the RG you need to reboot the wireless PC. After reboot, to make sure the cabled NIC isn't causing a routing problem, open a Command Prompt and run IPCONFIG /release and then run IPconfig /renew. Then test your ping to an Internet IP address such as 198.6.245.100 (which is just some DNS server on the Internet).
If this works, then ping a HOST name like www.usatoday.com |
