Shared files won't stay open

Talking about shared files folder from My Network Places on my computer.Whenever I open one of the files in there, the shared files folder closes and brings me back to the desktop everytime.It is the only folder that does this.Baffling to me any ideas on how to stop this?I can open the file from the other computer from here no problem.Just not this one on this computer.

Windows XP Home
Athlon XP2200+
512 megs Mushkin RAM

interesting, can you open it from the 'run' dialog?

get all your windows updates?

right click properties and see what the target is

File name sharedocs
C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Documents
That is the target for the whole file.
I can get in after opening that However when I open shared pictures or whatever, it closes and puts me to the desktop.

and just restarting doesnt fix it right? get the updates?

I can go into My Network Places and open the other computers shared files.Just not the one on whatever PC I am using.As far as updates, I am up to date with all security updates but not up to date with recommended ones.I will go and see what I may need.

So, what is happening is whenever you open a share on the local machine it wont stay open. \\thiscomputer\share? But \\anothercomputer\share will stay open?

are you getting the doulbe slash \\

\\C:thisfile\

Yes I believe I follow you. Yes I can open shared files on the other PC.On this PC in the same My Network Places, it closes after I try.

I see a discrepency there. Is that the issue?This is all new to me.I have had these PC's online through the same DSL router for 6 months and only now decided to do this. I do share a printer now.Thats as far as I got with it. Until I went looking for something that was in a shared folder.I can drag in and out among both PC's, but to open these files on Savannah, is where I get kicked out back to the desktop.BTW I named the computers after my Kids.
