DSL Network problem. Down for 16 days!

I'm just curious if always takes ISP providers this long to fix things. For over 2 weeks now my ISP has been having seroius problems. I live in a very small town and get my DSL from my local telephone company. I personally think they dont have a clue what they are doing, but I may be wrong.

I called 16 days ago to report a problem after a big storm. I couldnt get online at all. A tech comes out and starts saying it looks like my modem was hit. I explained that he was dead wrong as I have another working westel Modem that worked and now it doesnt either. the next day he comes back out and said I had a line problem and they would get it fixed. This turned into a week job, and he even made the comment that the "ball" got dropped with me a coulple of times.
Then they call and leave a message on my answering machine saying its fixed (I told the 20 times to call my cell as i was never home, but they didnt).
Well, its not fixed. My web pages simply dont load and say page cannot be displayed. I contacted them yet again monday morning and they said , "yeah, every has the same problem you got, turns out everyone has had the same problems you have had." I also said i was the only one to report the problem and it took others well over a week to complain.
Here it is friday, and i'm still down.
I am so aggitated with these people. They are nice, but simply dont a a friggin clue. 2nd they must not snail mailing parts in and not even know about fed ex.

I bet I could run down there and fix it myself with the help of you guys.

I normally never have problems. I have had 2 problems in 2 years and it always takes them a long time to resolve it.
Is this normal, as far as how long it takes them to resolve it?

Note, I do not have the virus and neither does my ISP. thats been checked.

I've been with Ameritech (now merged into SBC Global) since Summer 2000. I'm located in the near north Chicago suburban area. Even with some really big ISP "glitches" (their equipment/backbones) we've rarely been out of DSL for more than 24 hours... maybe two days at the most. This includes some occasional, real wild storm damage.

I want to compliment you on your ability to maintain your composure, after 16 days I would be in a mental institution or maybe jail if I got my hands on the phone/ISP guy. I hope it gets better for you.

That doesn't sound normal no. There's no way it should be down for more then two weeks unless there has been a major disaster that has destroyed either their central office or a good portion of their lines.

I've been with Ameritech(SBC Global, whatever) for only a few months now, but I haven't lost connection at all since I got it installed, as far as I can tell.

Well, its day 20 and still no DSL. Problem seems to be that at times i can get online for about 30 seconds or so and you think they got it fixed, then it all comes to a screaching halt saying page cannot be displayed.

I continue to contact the local phone company/ISP everyday around 4 pm to see if they got it fixed. They havent got a friggin clue! Sure, they are perfect when there isnt problems, but this makes the 2nd time they couldnt fix it in a timely manner.

Last thrusday I actually went up to there and the REP said "well, they are out at the remote right now changing out a part and if thats not the problem theres only one other part that could be the problem and it will be in the the morning. With that said it will be up by friday for sure."
Well friday evening I get home no DSL! Again they havent got a friggin clue.

I just called and spoke with the same lady that said it would be up by friday. I go thru the entire spill about this is going on 3 weeks and so on, I was polite but obvously tired of it. She said, "well they have now deterimed that its a virus."
I then tell here shes gotta be joking me.
She responds with "sorry, really..... but its not my fault".
At that point I got a little heated and told here what I thought.
The Tech working up there are retards. They havent a clue about computers, internet, networking (I know, i have met them). The only reason they have techs that arent worth a crap is because they hired by the "good ole boy" route rather than whos best for the job (i know, i applied).
I went on to say that the fact is that it doesnt take 3 weeks to repair a virus. I am no pro, but If I wasnt sure of a virus or whatever I would of replaced the drive and reloaded all software for the hell of it, just to see if that would of corrected the problem.
If they would of done this on day 2 this would of solved their problem. Heck if they would do this now it would solve their problem, but no... those idiots are going to fart around another week trying to remove the virus.

One things for sure, they better not bill me 49.99 for DSL and i made that very clear to the rep.
Funny thing is that this is a very small town. I bet you in less than about 24 hours someone will call me, be it a neighbor or one of my wifes school kids mothers wanting to know whats going on..

Oh this is pineland teleponephone complany in Metter, GA. An hour west of Savannah GA.

Cool. Although, I don't know about you, but being so close to Six Flags makes it totally lose it's appeal. Oh, well.

Oh, and about SBC? I must've lost internet at home last night, because my IRC bot and irc stats page that I host were gone, according to the people in the rooms. Oh, well. Guess I shouldn't have jinxed it by posting.

Not me... I'm in it for the 'coasters... love 'em, the higher, the faster, the better... must be a frustrated fighter pilot wannabe

PS: Bummer about your SBC service... must be local... had no probklems here. Do you know what Redback you are on? Don't think Chicago or Elmhurst RBs had any problems yesterday.
