| Satellite Internet??
I can only get 56k here where I live, and was thinking about satellite. Does anyone know if that would be any good?? I have seen the high prices, $600+ for just the unit!
That is crazy!
Any help would be appreciated. |

its just like cable, depends on how many ppl there in ur area or any other areas got it, im thinking a few cause i can't stand 56k, and if there on alot u will get low down times, and ya if ur a gamer, u might just forget it, neither way be good, but its better than 56k, it would go that low to 56k level

well that is my main problem, GAMING!
I can't play any of the new games because I keep lagging out...
I've been searching for cable/DSL for a year now and nothing has come up yet.. |

Pings on satelite can be as high as 2000, gaming would be impossible, worse than 56k.
I dont really think satelite is going to be dependent on how many people are in your area... it wouldnt make sense simply due to how the technology works. It might be more dependent to the number of uses using the satelite overall. |

heres a quote from starbands website
"Up to 10x faster download speeds than dial-up. With speeds for Web surfing and file downloads of up to 500 kbps (targeted minimum speeds in excess of 150 kbps), downloading a file that used to take 5 minutes with dial-up can now take as little as 30 seconds!"
150kbps is pretty damn pathetic.... unless you have money coming out your ears I wouldnt recommend it

Its about the same as Starband... Starband used to be in conjunction with Dishnetwork but they kinda split apart.
The one from DirectTV is called "DirectPC" and has about the same speeds, they say Maximum speed of 400kbps vs the 500kbps of starband.. but its 10 dollars less per month.
Pings I presume would be about the same... rediculous (I'm commenting moreso on common sense and what I've read, to actual exerpance <end disclaimer>) |
