Browser problem

Kind of annoying actually. I cant get to a search engine at all on Internet Explorer.I can use my favorites and go to a specific site like here. I can't get to Google Lycos or any except Yahoo. I get the error,page not displayed.However, I still can't do a search at all on Yahoo.My other PC on the same network can so I know it's not the ISP or the router. It also is my Netscape browser as well.Any ideas on where ot look for issues in my Windows XP?

1. The obvious, check for spyware! www.lavasoft.de
2. C:\WINNT\system32\drivers\etc - check the hosts file (open in notepad) make sure there are no entries for your search engine.

I have Spybot on this PC and run it regulary.I ran it after reading your post.I am starting to believe that installing Halo started all of this.LOL

As to this, I haven't a clue on accessing this. I am pretty much software illiterate.Could use a walk through.

Easy method

Open notepad

File --> Open
put in
C:\WINNT\system32\drivers\etc\hosts into the filename

(sorry.. if you're on XP try
C:\WINDOWS\system32\drivers\etc\hosts)

its just a text file, on the bottom of all the comments (preceded by # signs on each line) should be one valid line of

127.0.0.1 localhost

beyond that, make sure nothing for your search engine is in there.
