| ENABLING IP ROUTING IN WINXP
AFTER SETTING UP MY ROUTER AND SOLVING MANY OTHER PROBS THAT I HAD I NEED HELP IN TURNING ON IP ROUTING IN WINXP
WHEN I RUN IPCONFIG /ALL IT SAYS THAT IT IS NOT ENABLED AND THAT WILL BE MY LAST PROBLEM TO FIX
I AM RUNNING WINXPPRO AND I HAVE JUST GONE FROM A DIRECT ADSL CONNECTION TO A WIRED CONNECTION TO A LINKSYS ROUTER WHICH IS ALSO HAS WIRELESS AND HAVE AN ME MACHINE WITH A WIRELESS CONNETION ON IT WITH NO PROBLEM THE TWO ARE USING THE INTERNET THROUGH THE ROUTER NOT THROUGH THE XP MACHINE
THANKS IN ADVANCE

well first of all, lay off the caps...
Second of all, when you say "HAVE AN ME MACHINE WITH A WIRELESS CONNETION ON IT WITH NO PROBLEM THE TWO ARE USING THE INTERNET THROUGH THE ROUTER NOT THROUGH THE XP MACHINE" I cant quite understand what u mean
So you have
DSL Modem --> Linksys router --> Branches off seperately to PC 1 and PC 2?
Maybe im extremely ignorant but by IP routing in winXP do you mean ICS? (internet connection sharing)
and oh ya, welcome to techimo |

Did you happen to check to see if you had any protocols bound to your NIC?

Routing does not need to be "On" for the pc to work with a router. By default on any W2K or XP machine when you do an ipconfig /all, IP routing will be set to NO. The way it turns on is if you make the pc a VPN server or something, then since it is acting as a router of sorts, this option will now be enabled.
What I suggest you do is post an ipconfig /all from your machines. Then we can get you going.

Maybe I'm over simplifying.....
LAN enabled?
DHCP enabled?

Out of curiosity, why do you think it SHOULD be set to yes?
Agreed with meese, unless your machine is working as a router it has no need of being turned on.
Your machine is not doing the routing between networks. The router is.
Your machine talks only to another box on the same network.

I think you need to figure out the correct terminology for your question. |
