Backup over mapped network drive problem

Ok,

Specs first:

Laptop

Newer IBM, running Windows 2000

Desktop

Old old old thing that runs Windows 98SE

On with the story...

I have a client who has a laptop and a desktop. He wants the laptop to backup to the desktop, simple enuf eh? So I setup MS Backup on the laptop to backup to the desktop every morning at 8am. However, only problem is, although the computers are on and the network is operational, the file never transfers to the desktop.

I have a hunch this has something to do with mapped network drives that the MS Backup uses to store the file. Any ideas?

-Chris

I never use MS Backup so I can't offer any helpwith it.

I can suggest simply using Task Manager and a VBS script to copy the files. I know of a nice VBS script you could use if interested. I'll post link a little later.

DVNT1 to the rescue...

Sure, I wouldn't mind having a VB Script transfer the files... actually that would be nice. The owner would also like to do backups manually which would be much easier with this script.

Thanks!

A plain old dos batch file can also do it.....

Meese and Davidamarkley are the batch pros. (I wanna be one but the batch files keep getting over on the back burner somehow)

Here's the link http://www.michaelhorowitz.com/backupscript.html
(here's the actual script... http://www.michaelhorowitz.com/MikeBkup.txt which needs renamed to a VBS extention)

It's well documented and easily adjusted.
