| cheap linux isp, local or other?
anyone know any dial up isp i could use with linux, or if you live in the denver area, do you know any local ones?
i am pretty sure my modem is supported by linux, becuase i saw one with the same chipset, lucent 1646T00, that claims to work great with linux
so if i got a cheap linux isp i could try it out - thanks

You might want to try someone like your local phone company, they usually don't have proprietary software (ie, browser) and use just a normal dial in and give your name/password.
Then it's just a matter of configuring Linux to do the dialup and password stuff.

| JacobM5727,
Hey neighbor, I'm here in Loveland just north of you. I use Front Range internet and I know they work with Linux. I used them with my Red Hat project. I'm getting ready to make another linux machine and I am keeping them as my ISP - They are a great Compnay. They are based in Fort Collins but they have dial-up numbers all along the colorado front range all the way to Colorado Springs. I'd check them out for linux or otherwise. I honestly can't find one bad thing to say about them Frii.com
Hope this helps,
Gary |

From what I understand, Kuasi is right. There is no such thing as a "linux ISP" or "windows ISP". They just provide you with an interent link. What OS, software, protocols, etc you use is your perrogative. |

Their is a local isp by me who tells people they will not help with u if use linux, no support if you have problems connecting - even when they are at fault. Their reason, "Linux is not reliable" and they use linux themselves(sendmail, login, routing, firewall) |

kppp, which is what I use, has the same settings and uses the same protocols as Windows DUN. A connection is a connection. If you have a working modem and the info you need from your ISP, you're set no matter what OS. Unless they require the use of proprietary software and do not support your OS.
I use EarthLink. Their software only supports windows and mac. But, I don't want their resource hogging software anyway. I configure manually. Germ

as long as you can get the dialup info for any isp (short of aol of course), you can use it with linux... |
