| Direct PLay lobby connection timed out!...in TA when I play it online!
hello all!!!
ok, me and my friend love the old game, Total annihilation.
I have recnetly got a router and now i am sharing 3 of my computers.
for some reason when i try to find his game in a lobby connecting by ip address it doesn't come up....
sometimes it does, when it does we i cannot enter..
we had tried may times, including many restarts. We decided to try playing on gamespy..
he hosted a room and i joined it, we went to run the game and got this error
"connection to directplay lobby timed out"
i was thinking this was because of the router, i found that some ports needed opening for the game to run online. (btw, he was hosting, i was connecting to it)
i found this: http://www.tafansite.com/hwgn/articles.php?articleID=10
i tried what is says to open with the control pannel that came with my router. a screenshot
well after i applied these changes nothing worked, and btw, and added some of the other options as well (they were selectable by the router, i think it was because of gamespy. It allowed me to select total annihilation and open the ports)
well...
did i do something wrong?..
i really need help as me and my bud love playing the game, but because of this pesky router nothing works.
i have desabled the firewall as well |

okay looking at your attached pic for some reason you have different ports forward to 192.168.2.10 - 192.168.2.21
which doesnt make sense. all those ports should be forwarded to one computer. ( the computer that will be used as the server)
go to run type cmd then type ipconfig. in the private ip addres that one number should go. Now try to have him connect to your game you created |

......i never knew what the private ip bit was for...
thanks alot, i will try this when he next comes online
i am very new at networking i am only 16 and setting the router up was hard enough!
i thought those ip's were just their for a reason so i just gave them a random ip...
i didnlt know that is was to which pc it was forwarding !!!
lol, well, hope this works! |

hmmm
ok my friend was online earlier and we wanted a game.
i made sure that the ports were open for my ip.
i hosted, he couldn't join. he could see my room but that was all
he tried to join it but it just updated the lobby list everytime he did, so...
he decided to host...
i could join his game with ease, but...
my bro (another person on the LAN) said he wanted to play as well...
me and my m8 were in the room he created, my bro could't join. I thought this was because the ports were only open for me, i went into the options and made him a new list with the same ports open but pointing to his ip. meaning both computers had these ports open..
he still couldn't join.
but when i host, my bro can join thru the Lan, but my m8 at his house can't..
is there any way we can solve this? |
