    the IE problems continue

From the beginning..... I built myself a low end gamer with a K7S5A pro, 2400+, 512 Crucial 2100, 120 GB Western Digital and Powercolor 9600XT. I loaded XP and then the mobo drivers from the CD. In my stupid desire to play CoD (which I got for Christmas) I hooked up to my router checked IE and loaded my game. Next time I launched IE my homepage was some bs search engine. I have reset several times only to have it come back to the search engine. It was at this point that I realized that like a person suffering from HUMA (head up my arse) I never loaded Norton. I loaded Norton, d/l adaware, trojan hacker and spybot and installed. It appears after deleting/quarantining some files I still have some problems. I don't get all the pics to load on the techimo home page (as well as others) nor do links in posts work. I am no longer getting any hits from spyware/antivirus proggies so I am in a quandry. If I run my mouse over links in posts, my cursor stays in the "hand" form and I don't get the page loading bar at the bottom of the window. Eventually the system will time out and bring me back to the post page. I can click on buttons link forums or news ( it does this on all sites) I tired to "remove" IE through control panel but that only removes the icon. So I "need to do some of that pilot @$&* Mav". Would someone like to be my RIO?

Have you tried simply reinstalling IE?

Redownload it, and go through install process
During the install process there is also a "Repair" option if I"m not mistaken.

I didn't get to try much with it tonight, but I did redownload IE6. When it goes to install it gets to 83% and quits. Says something about the "win logo.....not being compatible with XP" I also tried to just delete the IE folder I already had and it wouldn't let me do it. Said that IE is running....I didn't have it open. I created another account on the machine and had the same problem. I am not that strong with registry editing so that is out if I have to manually find the problem there. Could it be some dll file in the windows directory? Oh and I never saw an option to "repair" when trying to reinstall IE. Maybe I should just give up and reinstall XP from the get go....just hate to lose my saved games on my game partition. Any ideas? Thanks

Maybe try a "Repair" install of WinXP... boot from the WinXP disk, skip the first "Repair" option (it goes to the Recovery Console, which is not what we want in this case) and use the second "Repair" option it gives you (have your CD key ready). That should fix IE and you won't have to re-install everything else or lose your saved games. The only thing that you may have to re-install is any Symantec/Norton stuff... usually gets fubar'd on my system everytime I do a Repair install.

Ok, I d/l several free reg fixing programs. They found several errors and eventually all were repaired. Still got the problem of not being able to click on links. Cursor never changes to hourglass, just stays the hand. I did a repair of XP Pro, made sure all was ok with Norton so I hooked my cable connection back up. Well my home page was reset to space-search again and I still cannot click on links in posts. Suggestions? this is just ticking me off to the highest level of tickivity!
