| Losing internet connection/router?
Lately I have been having to restart my computer to gain internet access. After restart, I have internet fine. My kids machine was doing this, I didn't believe them, and I wondered why they were always restarting their comp. Then it started happening to my main machine.
Important info;
ECS K7S5A w/ onboard nic
ECS K7VMA
Netgear RP 114 Web-Safe 4-Port Cable/DSL Router w/ firmware updated.
XP Pro on both machines.
What is causing me to restart?
Need more info? Just ask. |

Is it set to pick up IP address with DHCP? Probably loses it's lease, then. Just set 'em all manually, and all should be well.
Cheers

Mick | Yes, it is set up that way. I notice no difference between the settings when it's working and when it's not. So Mick, do you think it's the router? |

Initially sounds like the router failing. |

Yep, could be the DHCP server part of the router is losing it's mind.
If you set the IP's manually, you may get a bit longer life out of it. If any other wierd connection issues arise, though - suspect the router, and try and replace it.

It renews the IP leases each time you log on. But it must muck up each lease time, and drop them out at "random". A bit like Alzheimers for DHCP servers.
Manual IP's would fix that - it doesn't have to dish them out or rmember them. Just disable DHCP and set them all manually.
Until it develops more symptoms.
Cheers
