Not the same exact thing, but I had a day sort of like that yesterday too.
UBER UBER VENTING:
I come in, find out my dumb shit managers didn't order enough products again to fill the shelves.
I'm finding plenty to keep me busy, my dumb ass and worthless supervisor (the one that got the job over me, that I've applied for 5 times over the last 12 years), He heads out to go check prices at Walmart/Cub Foods (which is just 5 minutes tops, down the road, more precisely, other end of the Parking lot and across the street from the Neighboring Mall.)
Spends an Hour and Half gathering a few dozen Prices of their Produce Items (they do this twice a week, one place one day, the other later in the week).
He does this on a regular basis, spends an hour, hour and half, sometimes 2 hours, over at the competition, getting prices, when it should take no more than 10 minutes tops), gets back to the store, comes back to the dept, and then either does one of two things, gets all of our prices and puts them down, which oddly enough takes him 15-20 minutes to do in our dept alone, due to all of his scuttling around, and talking to people.
Then, goes upstairs to make the Us versus Walmart or Cub Foods signs, and the price differences. this takes another half hour to do.
which in all honesty is the most time consuming part of the whole task...
then comes back down, and "works" if you can call it that, then by 3PM is leaving for his Hour Lunch Break...
I'm sitting here thinking to my self WTF?
He works a 12PM to 9PM, and he hasn't done a Damn thing, and leaving for Lunch already, meanwhile, I've already down stacked a Potato/Onion pallet, put out 95% of those products, filled several sale item displays that our managers and morning crew simply "forgot" to fill, corrected several displays where my moron coworkers couldn't seem to move the tags for those items to the new spots, so we have mislabeled items and prices.
or in the case of our Organic Romaine Hearts, one of the older ladies put the Non Organic in the Organic Spot, leaving our Non Organic Spot (Cheaper in price too), completely bare, I grab the organic ones start working them out and realize what happened.
Now we've lost 7 hours worth of sales on the non organic because their in the organics spot where almost no one buys them, and seeing the price steer away from them.
I point it out to my manager, and he just doesn't care, or even gives it a second thought, asks me to just fix it and go on...
Several other instances of this stuff yesterday as well.
Then my Supervisor, decided to come back from his lunch hour in a relatively, and I do mean relatively, timely manor...
You see, he likes to take an Hour and half or longer lunch break, he clocks out for roughly an hour, and then spends a half hour after clocking back in, socializing with coworkers upstairs before he gets his ass back downstairs.
meanwhile, if I come in to start my shift a few minutes late, I get the 5th degree from my Assistant Manager about what time I was supposed to be there.
or I get some BS lip or attitude when I call in a half hour, sometimes an hour before being there, to say I'm running late.
To Top it all off, my douche bag Supervisor (who I'm always cleaning up after, fixing his screw ups, etc, and I've been dealing with his shit since we were in Boyscouts, as he's 2 years younger than me, and I always had to do the same crap back then as I do now), well, while he was upstairs making the signs, I know his ways, and so I decided to fill the front display by the registers, of our Bananas.
Really only need 2 boxes to fill it, many times if he fills it, he doesn't even check to see what is needed, he just grabs 1 or two boxes, then heads up there, many times he won't return for 10 to 15 minutes sometimes longer, for something that takes no more than 2 minutes to fill and be back.
So I filled it before he could when he got back, so one less excuse for him to disappear.
Well I was on the way back from that, and the Manager of The Neighboring Natural Foods Department asked me if I could help fix the Touchscreen Kiosk (runs a Mini ITX system inside the kiosk)
was a year ago, I helped her access Windows XP and set up and install the new Software for it.
well it was that time of year again, and she was just trying to get the USB keyboard to work to use the stuff.
She hooked it up exactly as the rep on the phone told her too, looking at it, the USB cables were connected, but the "Splitter" cable was for the Printer, and the additional cable that was coming out of the system had a Pass through style USB connector, with what looked like nothing but a power cable coming out of it, that went to the system.
anyways, I was about to connect the Keyboard (has a built in Trackball) Directly into the system, see if it could get power (there was no power going to the keyboard).
But she started to get skittish and wanted me to plug it back in.
She decided to call our Efficiency Expert from corporate over to help, since he's got some knowledge of how the Self Check outs and what not work and seems to be their "Guru" with computer related stuff...
Yeah, that was a laugh, he was trying to see if the two female ends of the USB connectors would connect, that was about all I had know about him to determine his Technical Expertise with this stuff... basically he's been lucky lately with fixing things, with no real knowledge to back it up.
Overall he's been doing a good job with fixing stuff our past Store management and Corporate has been screwing up, for the past 10-15 years.
but he knew I was helping, and I even explained to him what we did, etc, etc, rebooted the PC, etc etc.
And that I build these things in my spare time, for friends, family, Myself, etc, Building basic PC's and My own Gaming PC's, so I know a thing or two, just have no College education in it, or certifications.
he was actually impressed.
But in the ensuing confusion, my Assistant manager marched over and had that "Look", like he was about to go ape shit on someone... looked at me and what we were doing, and walked off.
Well he had gotten back from HIS lunch hour not long before, my Manager was monkeying around with Mondays order (for today, rather simple job to do), and one of our other part timers, older lady, who does what she wants when she wants and they don't put their foot down about it, was "Busy" messing around with putting Xmas Decorations away from our dept.
business was picking up a bit, and despite all that I had done in the last 2 hours, he was getting flustered as there was stuff to fill (just about anything that needed to be filled, we didn't even have in stock), because I was "monkeying" around with that computer.
Sorry Bucko, But they asked for my help before our "Expert" from corporate came over, and even he didn't know how to fix it.
Sure enough, I told the guy from Corporate, I was going to hook the keyboard straight to the PC, which we did, still no power, but I hit the button to reboot the system, told them, but they decided, maybe switch the surge suppressor off, and on again... sure enough Windows was seconds from rebooting the PC, and the power went off
Came back on, restarted, got into windows, keyboard lit up, mouse cursor was moving, now she could get the system updated, and running, once that was done, unplug the keyboard, plug the laser printer back in, reboot the system, and her Kiosk was running again.
Especially since it hasn't worked right for the past FOUR months now.
So Damn me for coming to the rescue and saving someones ass again in the store, damn me for knowing more than our Expert from Corporate on something so simple.
Damn me for working my ass off and saving THEIR Asses in my own department, not even so much as a Thank you, or acknowledgment...
But my Asst Manager as usual jumps to conclusions and assumes something with out bothering to get any information on the situation.
He's one of those assholes who has the idea "Well I know how you are..."
He knows I play Video games, knows I'm good with Computers, "knows" this and that about me, "knows" my personality, and automatically assigns many of those Stereotypes that go with those things to me, with out actually getting to know me better.
I drive in 20 Miles West of town on one of the main Highways in the state, but because where I am, due to the Farming areas, We don't usually Rank high on Priority for Roads being cleared in Winter Time.
Meanwhile My Asst Manager lives 10 Miles North Of Town on another main highway (actually on a Lake Resort Road, off the highway), since he's up north of town Half the distance of me, and on a Resort road, if the weathers fine for him, and he comes in.
And I'm running late, from where I am, being 20 miles WEST of town, the weather hits me first, not him... plus with worse roads, if I come in late because of that, in past years he'd always be like "Well The Roads were fine for me when I came in, I don't know why your saying that... I Just think you were up late playing your video games, and woke up late and using the roads as an excuse" or some sort of variation on that.
basically he's just a complete A Hole.
Anyways, I got on his Sh*t list yesterday for Schooling the Corporate Expert Guy, and Helping a Coworker out, after all the crap I had already done for them, because they were worried about losing their jobs for not getting stuff done while it was busy, and the guy was back there.
Basically all the management has been running around with their heads cut off so to speak, as the main reason he's here is to get the store running efficiently, and cutting costs, as well as figuring out who down the road they can get rid of to save in Wages and costs.
And quite honestly my Manager is one of the ones who has a high chance of that happening because of his "Nice guy" lax management style for the past nearly 20 years.
He's a Nice guy, but he doesn't delegate responsibilities when he should, and Communications in our Department is Attrociously Pathetic.
I've on more than a few occasions have tried to stress the emphasis, but my Asst Manager always has the attitude that my concerns are Trivial and not priorities, whether its communications or doing things a certain way back there....
And quite honestly I'm having the time of my life some days with them so worried with the Corporate guy in there.... Its in my own way, saying, I TOLD YOU SO...
this is what you get for not listening to reason, you got your selves in this mess, and don't expect me to bail your asses out again.
If you get shit canned, its your own damned fault.
Basically just about the Entire department management needs to be shit canned (Manager And Supervisor, Asst Manager, even as much of an ass as he is, has at least some common sense on issues, so there's at least hope for him, but he needs to get over his Stereotypes and assumptions and base decisions, opinions etc on actual Facts, and put some actual efforts in with getting to know his subordinates). Then there are other employees that need to be put in their place (the one older lady I work with, and even to some degree, my Asst Manager), and things would actually run fairly smoothly, and properly compared to the past 15 years or so.
It would make for a terrible weapon for the average mass murderer. A more appropriate gift would the The Anarchist Cookbook.
The perfect gift for an aspiring...
