    Outlook Express keeps track of its downloaded messages using a file. Sometimes this file becomes corrupted which results in the same messages getting downloaded repeatedly.

    Close Outlook Express

    Using the Windows search/find utility locate the file pop3uidl.dbx and rename it to pop3uidl._bx

    Start Outlook Express and check for new mail.

    yes..a phone call to the isp is the best course of action....I had some friends who had something similar happen (they didnt have duplicated mails though)....they had one email with a picture and it was "bad" or it just wouldnt download correctly....they called the isp and just had them delete that particular email and it worked fine after that.

    on some isp's..if you dont get ALL of your will try to send them all again...I think thats whats happening with is getting some messages...but hanging on a certain next time you just get the same messages again cuz you didnt get ALL the messages the first time.

    Call the isp and tell them whats up.

    What type of connection are you using ? Dial-up or broadband ?

    Have you checked the service status of the e-mail servers on the NTL website - they could be having problems their end.

    Further, if you have access to you e-mail via the NTL website using webmail, I would check there and read and delete all messages currently queued for you. Sometimes an incommin e-mail is corrupted in some way and causes a "bottle neck".

    You will often recieve messages again if a problem occurs during the mail recieving process. This is because the message didn't get deleted from the server because your email program never finished downloading to send a command to delete them. Not sure what would be causing it to hang up though.

    I feel really embarrassed about 'bumping' my thread with this post, and will delete it straight away if this is disallowed, but I can't seem to find any help anywhere, and really worried why this is happening..

    I wouldn't even consider 'bumping' unless I wasn't so worried, about my online transactions, and why this is generally happening.

    Any body! Got a clue about my above post? Please help. I am as stuck as a pig in mud..

    Multiple copies of emails in Outlook express 6

    Dear members,

    If anyone has had a simular problem, and resolved it, or knows how to, please let me know, as I am at a loss.

    I am running Windows XP home, and Outlook Express 6.00.2800.1123, and my server is

    I am also running Norton Internet Security 2004, but I don't know if this is relevant or not.

    I have 2 identities set up in Outlook Express, created from the 2 of the 5 mail accounts you get with an NTL package, and both were working fine until.....

    ...about a week ago, after opening Outlook express, and begining to receive my messages, I noticed that it wasn't receiving new messages, but just a copy of the ones already received!

    Then, once it has copied all messages already received, it hangs on a message, and I get continuous

    "Your POP3 server has not responded in 60 secs.

    Would you like to wait another 60 secs for the server to respond?" I 'wait' over and over again, until I get the

    "Your server has unexpectedly terminated the connection. Possible causes for this include server problems, network problems, or a long period of inactivity...error no. 0X800CCC0F"

    then I restart outlook, and it goes through the same process, giving me a 3rd and then a 4th copy of each email!

    I have checked that both identities don't have a check in the 'Leave messages on server' box in the account properties, and am now stuck.

    Funnily enough, I did seem to be able to resolve the problem when I thought it may be a problem with the message it was hanging on, by opening my inbox on the site, and deleting the one after the last one I have in my inbox in OE, but the problem has reoccurred, and so that can't be it.

    Is it something to do with a corrupt .dbx file? Or a setting?

    If anyone has any ideas, please help, as I can't find any online troubleshooters, and the one for OE doesn't help atall.
