I also have a legal copy of WinXP that came with my Dell 4550 and use Windows Update all the time, but I got this same weird error where the download fails. Is that SP2 for IT whatever whatever whatever's the same as the one I would get through windows update?
I just asked if it was a legal copy to be sure it wasn't. You never know. Anyways, at least with SP1 you were able to download it but not install it. You would get an error while installing it if you had a pirate version of Windows XP. Apparently, he has a legit copy of Windows XP, so this information has no affect to his situation. Did the download of SP2 from the link(s) provided work for you by the way?
If it wasn't legal, then windows update wouldn't allow him to download it in the first place from windows update site. Somewhere else like connection dropping or internet disconnecting while it downloads seems to be the problem.
Besides, it's not like microsoft is able to block all pirated copys anyway, I recall on their newsgroups, one of the microsoft officials admited to only blocking known keys which most everyone doesn't use anymore, no question of it being an illegal copys here..
If you have the time download sp2 here:
It's a bigger package, but it's worth it so you dont have to download it again later, just burn it to a back up cd.
i hope its a legit i ordered it from http://salesintl.com

Here's a good cold- or hot-weather soup that uses only ingredients you probably already have: Canned tomatoes, canned garbanzos (chickpeas), canned chicken stock, olive oil, garlic, dried rosemary...
