I don't have a USB mouse but I can't get my computer to recognise my digital camera any more either. There are only 2 USB ports on the computer and they both aren't working.
Your reply explains why the external drive isn't working on the other computer, since it's Windows 98. So it could still just be something related to this computer. Do most people just format it to fat32? Right now I have information on there I'd like to retrieve. My son had transferred all the pictures we'd taken in the last couple of years onto the backup and removed them from my computer's hard drive.

If you formatted the drive in NTFS then you won't be able to read it in Windows 98. If you want to use it with Windows 98 then make sure it's formatted in FAT32.

Are ALL of your USB ports not functioning? Try testing all of your ports with a USB mouse.

USB port stopped working after installation of Seagate external hard drive....

Can anyone give me some hints on what might possibly be wrong? I use Windows XP and got a Seagate 160 gb external hard drive. I installed the software (Bounce Back) and initially it worked. We were then able to use it intermittently and eventually not at all. I then discovered my digital camera wouldn't work through the USB ports either. I tried connecting the hard drive to another computer in the house that uses Windows 98. In both cases the computer doesn't recognise that the drive exists anymore. I did attach it at work and that computer recognises it but I only saw one drive. The device manager says the usb ports are fine.
