It pretty much engulfs my little 1.2 laptop celeron with 512MB ram, but it's a machine that doesn't much of anything well...needs more RAM and a faster hard drive (as it has a major IDE bottleneck issue). But on it's own it does well enough on my machine.

just got me this Joost thing

amazing nearly flawlessly on my machine (a64 3200+, 6meg connection) starts choppy for like a second, then becomes perfectly clear.

The H.264 decoding is done via CoreAVC. Being a software-based H.264 decoding solution, it can spike processor utilization at high details and/or fast motion.

With that said, my now "outdated" Turion 64 single-core notebook handles Joost decently well, even when multitasking.

Not bad for such an early beta... Not bad at all... I currently watching national geographic and it started out pretty choppy but has been smooth for the last several minutes. CPU usage is very erratic, ranging from as high as 60% down into the teens. This is on an X2 4400+

There are tweaks for better streaming performance. Besides raw bandwidth and system resouces, two important concerns are having properly balanced MTU and RWIN settings for your TCP/IP network config. You can also tweak the Mozilla-based portion of the client application for better network utilization, which can help with certain content like menus and overaly ads.

The content remains minimal for a reason. Joost is still in beta. As the Joost team has discussed, channels will be added, but most existing channels will have around their current level of content until Joost is formally launched when the software and platform are proven reliable and stable enough for widespread usage. Building numbers in the meantime also builds potential for future advertising revenue, which in turn impresses content providers.

Joost has signed a bunch of content agreements, and should sign plenty more given the popularity of the beta project. I expect a decent variety of content when launched.

The selection is still pretty slim and it tends to lag a bit, but Joost certainly has potential.

As discovered in the community forum, seems a few people still don't have invites. If anyone wants an invite, feel free to drop me a private message with your desired email address included.
