Yup its all about the TV - i reinstalled a game and set it up just under 1024x720 (native ??) worked fine with a little overscan. When i change the resolution in my graphics card to 1080p (whatever the numbers were 1999 ish) it only allows refresh of 30hz whereby the 720p native allowed upto 60hz. So essentially reinstall all games and ensure resolution is equal or under 720p. Still doesnt explain Star Wars though...lol couldnt even get into game options!!

Ok so i tried installing a few other old games like Age of Empires 1,2 and Age of Mythology having problems allround (windows saying initializationfailed: had this game for years never had a problem), the only game i seem to get working at the moment is Plants v Zombies pmsl.

Baffled i am, as for tv refresh rate....would it affect the games, desktop all working fine, internet etc (sorry if i sound stupid) everything just not games....weird!!

It is probably the refresh rate being set too high for your tv.
Has your game got a SafeMode option you can start up in?

Is this issue specific to that game? Can you run other games without issues?

HD Graphics Card playing old games

    Hello,

hopefully this is a completely noob mistake and is easily solved. I recently purchased a budget range card NVidia 8400GS. All plays fine and is now connected to my HD tv via the HDMI ports, great for watching movies etc

However when i revisited an old game: Star Wars Empire at War itfails to open on screen ie: installs fine, double click to open it loads but nothig displays other than my tv saynig NO SIGNAL. Im guessing this is something to do with the resolution etc as when i press the windows button on my keyboard it takes me back to the desktop all fine and hunky dory. (also did the same wih company of Heroes but that was my fault for changing the resolution in game and now i cant get in to change it without uninstalling and reinstalling)

    Any ideas please.

    Many thanks in advane.
