have you check that your device is showing up in

    control panel>>sound>>recording

if your device is working it will show up there

usually i use the jacks on the back of the computer unless chance of a screw up
    [jack is hardwire]

front not so,if computer gets bump may dislodge cable connected to front panel

    Welcome to TechIMO!

Can't say I have ever heard of a sound card destroying a mic, but anything is possible.

Is this on-board, or a dedicated sound card?
    If dedicated what brand model?
Is this USB, or are you plugging into the sound card?

I assume, you tested them in another computer.

    Weird problem/headset related

    Hello techimo people!
I have the weirdest problem regarding my headset(s).

I've bought some razer headset for about 70 Euro, after a month, my mic wont work. My friends/family cant hear me on skype etc etc. Im just thinking, its ok, must be a problematic headset.

Getting a new one the next day (non-razer).
after a month, mic burned out again. This cant be a coincidence.. Here i im again, buying a new cheap headset (10euro). This one lasted for more than a month, but its broken again. dunno what to do, is it a sound card problem? is it my bad luck and all of the headsets are braking? I think there is a problem with something else other than my headset.
